Car valeting

A car valet is a thorough hand clean, and there are three levels. An exterior wash and wax, from £25, keeps a car that is already looked after clean between valets. A mini valet, from £45, is a proper wash outside and a tidy inside. A full valet, from £100, goes further: seats and carpets shampooed, leather cleaned and fed, the boot emptied and cleaned, plastics dressed and the paint waxed or sealed. For stains, smells and pet hair there is the interior deep clean, from £120. Every valet is done by hand with a safe wash, which matters, because the swirl marks on most cars come from bad washing, not from the road. Nick comes to you from a fully equipped van across Deeside, Chester, Wrexham, Flint and Ellesmere Port, with no water or power needed from you.

How the wash is done, and why it matters

The fine circular scratches you see on most cars in sunlight are wash marks. They come from brushes at automatic car washes, from one bucket of gritty water, and from drying with an old towel. A valet that causes them is making the car worse while cleaning it.

  1. 01

    Pre-wash

Snow foam and a rinse take off the loose grit before anything touches the paint.

  2. 02

    Two-bucket hand wash

One bucket of shampoo, one of clean water to rinse the mitt, so the dirt from the sills is not dragged across the doors.

  3. 03

    Wheels separately

Wheels and tyres get their own brushes and buckets. Brake dust never goes near the paint.

  4. 04

    Safe drying

Plush drying towels or filtered air, not a chamois dragged across the panels.

Valeting at your home or work

Every valet is done where the car is parked: on a driveway, outside the house, or in a workplace car park if the employer allows it. The van carries its own water, power and equipment, so you do not need to provide anything. The car needs space to walk round it and open every door. The first 10 miles from Connah's Quay are free; after that, travel is 30p a mile.

In very heavy rain or high wind, a valet is moved to another day rather than done badly, and you are told in good time.

When a valet is not enough

Some things a valet does not fix. Swirl marks and faded paint need a machine polish. Deep stains, smells and heavy pet hair need the interior deep clean, which uses hot-water extraction and takes longer. Mould needs its source found first. You will be told which one your car needs before you pay for the wrong one.

Questions

Car valeting: straight answers

What is a full valet?

A thorough hand clean inside and out: snow foam and hand wash, wheels and tyres, glass, a full hoover, seats and carpets shampooed, leather cleaned and conditioned, the boot cleaned, plastics dressed and the paint waxed or sealed.

How long does a full valet take?

Most of a morning or an afternoon for an average car. Large cars, 7-seaters and very dirty interiors take longer. You are given the time when you book.

How much does a full valet cost?

From £100 for a small car, from £120 for a medium, from £140 for a large car and from £160 for a van or 7-seater. Mobile valets add travel after the first 10 miles, at 30p a mile.

Is a valet enough, or does my car need a detail?

If the car is in decent condition and you want it clean, a valet is enough. If the paint has lost its gloss or shows swirls in the sun, or the interior has stains a shampoo will not shift, it needs a detail or a deep clean. A photo on WhatsApp is enough to tell.

Do I need to be there for a mobile valet?

Not for the whole time. The car needs to be unlocked at the start and parked with space around it. Many customers hand over the keys and carry on with their day.
