Engine bay cleaning
An engine bay clean takes the oily grime, road dirt and leaves out from under the bonnet safely. The electrical parts that do not like water, such as the fuse box, the alternator and the air intake, are covered first; the bay is degreased and cleaned with brushes and low-pressure water, never a jet blasted at the engine; it is dried with compressed air; and the plastics and rubber are dressed so they look new without a greasy shine. People book it for three reasons: to present a car well when selling it, to make a leak easier to trace because a clean engine shows fresh oil straight away, and because a clean bay is part of a car that has been looked after. It is done at the studio in Connah's Quay, for customers across Deeside, Chester and Wrexham. A clean engine is not a repair, and anything leaking goes to a garage.

How it is cleaned safely

Cool engine
The engine is cleaned cold, never hot, so products do not dry on and nothing is shocked by cold water.

Cover
The fuse box, the alternator, the air intake and any exposed connectors are covered.

Degrease and agitate
A degreaser suited to engine bays is applied and worked in with soft brushes.

Rinse gently
Low-pressure water, not a pressure jet into the electrics.

Dry and dress
Compressed air and towels, then a water-based dressing on plastics and hoses.
When an engine clean is useful
- Selling: buyers open the bonnet, and a clean bay says the car has been cared for
- Finding a leak: on a clean engine, fresh oil or coolant shows straight away
- After a long winter: salt and grime build up around the bay
- As part of a full detail, so the car is clean where it is not usually seen
When it is not a good idea
Some older cars have exposed electrics or poor seals under the bonnet, and some modern engines have components that should stay dry. Those are wiped and hand-cleaned only, and you will be told if your car falls into that group before anything is sprayed.

Engine bay cleaning: straight answers
Is it safe to clean an engine bay?
Yes, when it is done cold, with the sensitive parts covered, with low-pressure water and properly dried. Most of the problems come from pressure-washing a hot engine.
Does engine bay cleaning help sell a car?
It helps presentation. Buyers look under the bonnet, and a clean bay suggests a cared-for car. It will not hide a leak, and it should not.
Can you clean the engine bay at my house?
Usually, yes, if there is room to work and somewhere for the water to go. Some jobs are better done at the studio.
